On March 15, 1994, the Central Board of Directors of the University of the Republic unanimously approved the creation of the Faculty of Psychology, whose history dates back to the mid-20th century. It is one of the 24 university services of the University of the Republic that provides high-level university training with a comprehensive undergraduate, continuing training and postgraduate system that articulates teaching with the development of research and extension. It has five Institutes and three Research Centers. It grants the title of Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and offers postgraduate training through seven Specializations, five Master’s Degrees and a Doctorate.

In 2022, the “Luisi Janicki: university pioneers” University Campus was inaugurated, where the Pro-Rectorates of Teaching, Research, and Extension, and their Sectoral Commissions converge; the Pro-Rectorate of Management; the Interior Coordinating Commission (CCI); the International Relations Service (SRI) and the Evaluation and Accreditation Commission (CEyA). The name pays tribute to the sisters Clotilde, Paulina and Inés Luisi Janicki, for being one of the first professional women with close ties to the University of the Republic and for their commitment to the development of education in the country.

The building of the Municipality of Montevideo was inaugurated on July 16, 1941. Marking the city from its heart, it dyes it with its red colors, offering the most wonderful of its views with its panoramic viewpoint, open and free to the public.

The University of the Republic (Udelar) is the largest public university in Uruguay. It was founded on July 18, 1849 in Montevideo and currently has a presence in 14 departments of the country. It is an autonomous entity (defined as such in the Constitution of the Republic). It is free, with free entry and co-governed, which means the participation of all university students (the orders of students, graduates and teachers) in government decisions that affect the institution, in accordance with the Organic Law of the University , approved in 1958.
